Life doesn't come with an instruction manual.
Neither does death.
The idea for Simple Step Press grew out of my family's experience following the death of my father. As we navigated funeral arrangements, legal documents, financial accounts, and countless unfamiliar decisions, I realized how difficult it was to find practical guidance written for ordinary families.
While family and friends offered comfort and support, there were countless practical questions that no one seemed to answer.
What should be done first?
Who needs to be contacted?
What happens with bank accounts, insurance policies, Social Security, property, vehicles, and legal documents?
Those experiences inspired me to write When a Loved One Dies—a practical, step-by-step guide designed to help families navigate one of life's most difficult seasons with clarity and confidence.

My Background
I graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film before spending several years working in the television industry in Los Angeles. Later, I returned to Texas, where I spent many years teaching Speech, Theatre, Technical Theatre, and Film Production.
Teaching taught me something that still guides my writing today:
Complicated subjects become less intimidating when someone explains them clearly.
That philosophy has become the foundation of every book I write.
